Nikki Haley thinks Jared Kushner is a ‘hidden genius’

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu speaks during a press conference at the Prime Minister's Office in Jerusalem

Nikki Haley's resignation on Tuesday from her position as U.S ambassador to the United Nations took even those close to her by surprise.

US ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley is resigning "to take a little time off", President Donald Trump said on Tuesday, as she became the latest in a long line of high-profile departures from the administration.

He told reporters in the Oval Office that she would be leaving the post at the end of the year after doing "an incredible job".

After almost two years as one of America's top voices on foreign policy, the 46-year-old SC native will leave at year's end with a strong global profile - and a reputation for standing up to the mercurial Trump.

Sanders wrote, "President Trump and Ambassador Nikki Haley will meet in the Oval Office at 10:30am this morning". He said he hoped she would come back to the administration in another capacity, adding "you can have your pick".

Haley, the former governor of SC, has been a fierce advocate for Trump's policies at the U.N. She said Tuesday that in the last two years, the USA had become respected on the world stage, if not necessarily liked. For all of you that are going to ask about 2020, no, I'm not running for 2020.... Thank you for representing the values common to Israel and the United States.

Haley said that while other countries may not like what American now stood for, she said the worldwide community respected it nonetheless. We have solved a lot of problems, and we're in the process of solving a lot of problems.

"It was a blessing to go into the United Nations with body armour every day and defend America", Haley, seated next to Trump in the Oval Office, told reporters. Trump teased an announcement less than an hour before his appearance with Haley, after news organizations began reporting she would resign. She also lavished praise on Trump's leadership and foreign policy stances. Where else can she go with State now firmly in Pompeo's hands?

"I am deeply concerned about the leadership vacuum she leaves and the national security impact of her departure at a time of continued disarray for this administration", Menendez, a Democrat from New Jersey, said in a statement. She reluctantly announced her intention to vote for Trump just weeks before Election Day.

"Well, I had a personal conversation with the president about Charlottesville, and I will leave it at that", Haley told CNN's Dana Bash at the time.

Haley stayed coy on her reasons for quitting, saying only that it was "important to understand when it's time to stand aside".
