Messi has not appeared for the national team since the last-16 loss to eventual champions France at the World Cup in Russian Federation.

"Messi's a great player, but he's not a leader, ' Maradona told Fox Sports Mexico".

That is according to City's chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak, who asked Guardiola which player he desired most in the world.

He said that the Barcelona forward "goes to the toilet 20 times a game".

In a questionable state during an interview with Fox Sports Mexico's "La Ultima Palabra", Diego Armando Maradona heavily criticized Lionel Messi as well as giving other weird comments, which at times seemed worrying.

"Let's stop making a god out of Messi".

A beaten finalist in the 2014 World Cup final with Argentina, Messi's worldwide career has also seen the nation lose three Copa America finals.

The 31-year-old linked up with Barcelona in 2001, and has gone to become one of the greatest players in the history of football with 563 goals being scored in 648 appearances in all competitions.

Lionel Messi is the forbidden fruit for every club in the world it would appear, with a manager he knows and respects, and the offer of three times his salary, not enough to take him from FC Barcelona to Manchester City.

The reference was believed to be in connection with Messi's extreme nerves before games that have seen him vomit ahead of some important matches.

"I wouldn't call him up right now, but never say never", he said.

But as part of the same story, the Catalan outlet report that there is a rather unusual clause in Messi's Barcelona deal that allows him to leave on a free transfer in 2020 - as long as it is a non-elite team.
