'I'm where I want to be': Federer

Novak Djokovic warns Rafael Nadal 'Year-End No.1 is one of ultimate goals'

At this week's Shanghai Masters, Roger Federer said tennis sets the standard for many sports when it comes to respectful behaviour - and that must extend to the treatment of ball boys and girls.

Rising star Zverev was similarly emphatic as he brushed aside Australia's new number one, teenager Alex de Minaur, 6-1, 6-4.

Then a game later, he played another very poor game to gift the set to an ailing Del Potro 7-5. I mean, he really caught fire, I thought.

Djokovic will take on seventh-seeded Kevin Anderson of South Africa, whom he leads 6-1 on head-to-heads.

There wasn't much Gasquet could have done as Del Potro just brought his A game when it mattered the most.

The German revealed he is feeling under the weather in China, but Basilashvili was unable to take advantage after a surprise win over Del Potro secured him the China Open title on Sunday.

He will next face Borna Coric, who won his R2 match yesterday against Bradley Klahn easily.

Federer, the defending champion, beat Daniil Medvedev 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 in the second round despite being broken late in the second set.

But at 4-4, the Swiss moved up a gear and played a brilliant, attacking return game to get the break at a crucial juncture and closed out the opener 6-4. "At this point in my life, I want to do what I really like to", said Federer. "I do not want to paint myself as a ideal person".

But, Medvedev somehow held on to keep the set on serve. And what looked like a stern test for Federer on paper proved to be exactly that in reality as the Swiss was taken the distance before his opponent ultimately crumbled at the crucial juncture late in the third set.

Thiem, who also received a first-round bye, struggled to find his rhythm in a tightly contested encounter which lasted two hours and 45 minutes. The intense battle continued in the 2nd, but it was Del Potro who succeeded again, this time at 7-6 to wrap-up the match in an hour and 53 minutes.

The Spaniard folded at the end of a 27-shot rally to surrender the first break of the match to the world No. 2, who soon wrapped up the first set.

However, the Swiss is a great champion for a reason and he found a late surge to rip the match away from his opponent to set up a quarter-final clash with Kei Nishikori.
