Ibrahimovic jumps to defence of under fire Man Utd boss Mourinho

Paul Pogba and Jose Mourinho have not seen eye to eye recently

Mourinho's public confirmation that he had erased Pogba from his list of vice-captains highlighted the discord between the United boss and his club record signing, but the midfielder has now offered up what will be viewed as his first public comments on leadership.

Meanwhile, former Arsenal winger Robert Pires won the World Cup with France back in 1998 and he suggests Pogba needs to be more cautious when speaking to journalists. "I've been lucky enough to experience that and take what I can from both of them".

Hugo Lloris lifted the trophy in Moscow in mid-July as Didier Deschamps' captain, and Pogba said he would continue being an influential figure in the squad even if he never replaced the Tottenham goalkeeper.

"I couldn't have done it without them". You should be like "I should score, score, score".

The 25-year-old midfielder played a big part in Les Bleus' campaign in Russian Federation, scoring a goal in the final as Didier Deschamps' side beat Croatia 4-2 to lift the coveted trophy. "That allows me to relay messages and have the chance to be heard", he said.

'When people ask me about him - "Jose, what's he like, what's he bring?" - it's winning that is the thing that strikes me the most, ' Carrick said.

However, Pogba was stripped of the vice-captaincy following a 1-1 draw with Wolves and his relationship with Mourinho has broken down significantly.

The France global believes he is capable of being a leader at United without having the captain's armband.

He cited former Italy midfielder Andrea Pirlo, a teammate of Pogba's at Juventus, as someone who could be relied upon to "show you the way on the pitch".

"For me, a leader isn't someone who wears something on his arm, who puts on the captain's armband".

"I'm not going to get into it, whether it's (Antoine) Griezmann, Kylian (Mbappe) or Raphael who deserve it much more than me".
