Harry Kane, Cristiano Ronaldo and Eden Hazard named on Ballon d'Or shortlist

Federation Internationale de Football Association are releasing the full 30-man shortlist throughout Monday names are released in alphabetical order with the likes of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Luka Modric expected to make the shortlist.

Modric won the 2018 Federation Internationale de Football Association men's award last month, while the women's award went to Brazil forward Marta, another Women's Ballon d'Or award nominee.

Wales forward Gareth Bale and England striker Harry Kane are among the nominees for the 2018 Ballon d'Or, BBC Sport reports.

Sure Pogba wasn't actually picked for his form for Manchester United but for his part in France winning the World Cup but you can still imagine his appearance on the 30 man list would have sent Souness into a rage.

Mbappe scored 21 goals for Paris Saint-Germain last season before starring in France's triumphant Russian Federation 2018 campaign, netting three times on their way to the final and then again in the 4-2 win over Croatia that sealed their second World Cup triumph.

They were beaten 4-2 in the final by France, and there are six of the victorious Les Bleus team on the list in Pogba, Lloris, Kante, Antoine Griezmann, Kylian Mbappe - also nominated for the Kopa Trophy - and Real's Raphael Varane.

Luka Modric walked away with FIFA's version of the best player in the world award and there's a good possibility the Croatia midfielder could do the same again with the more illustrious version of the award.

Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero and PSG's Neymar are nominated as are two other prolific South American strikers: Uruguayans Edinson Cavani of PSG and Luis Suarez of Barcelona.

Roberto Firmino from Brazil, Liverpool and Diego Godin from Uruguay, Atletico Madrid.

The Ballon d'Or is considered the most coveted personal accolade a player can achieve and this year's awards ceremony will take place in Paris on December 3.

The Ballon d'Or, which was first won by Englishman Stanley Matthews in 1956, is decided by a ballot of journalists from around the world.
