Google announces its first tablet in three years, the Pixel Slate
When you place the new Pixel 3 phone on it, the phone's entire UI reorients, effectively turning Pixel 3 into a Google Assistant-enabled smart speaker.
Something different from a year ago is the ability to wirelessly charge Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL.
While the phones haven't become mass-market hits, Google has seen more success with its home products. There's no Bluetooth but just Wi-Fi 802.11ac. Underneath the Google search bar are recommended shortcuts that will change over time based on your usage and apps you open frequently. "Pixel 3 XL's specs are almost identical, though, the display is 6.3" QHD AMOLED (2960×1440) with a top notch and the battery size is 3450mAh.
As you may have gathered, there are two Pixel 3 devices launching this year.
The Pixel 3 is a better-looking phone, in my opinion.
A rounded fingerprint sensor and a single camera sensor also sit on the back of both devices. However, both the phones are rated now at IP68 versus the IP67 of the Pixel 2. It has been created to blend in with your home - the screen automatically adjusts to the level and type of light in the room.
Although Google did not make any announcements about it on-stage, there's a new Chromecast. I've never wanted an iPad or a Windows tablet, and I've always preferred the purity and first-in-line-for-operating-system-upgrades you get with a Google branded product. Google is tossing in six months of YouTube premium when you buy a Home Hub so that you have plenty of content to watch.
While Google's phones have larger screens, they do look similar to their predecessors except for fully glass backs. It's coming next month to Pixel 3 as well as the rest of the Pixel lineup. Alongside it, they're now also selling a $79 wireless charging accessory dubbed "Pixel Stand" that essentially also turns your phone into a mini Smart Display. Instead of relegating your frequently used app icons to the lower-left corner of the screen like Windows does, Chrome now displays them prominently in the bottom center of the screen.
Google is about to announce the introduction of the new Google Pixel Slate at its hardware event in New York City.
So, the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL are clearly simply refinements of what's come before.
Google's Pixel Slate, meanwhile, comes in at a relatively modest $599, but has only an Intel Celeron under the hood paired with a measly 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage for that price.
It's thanks to these smart additions that we're likely to have another absolute fantastic Pixel smartphone on our hands and hopefully one that isn't besieged with issues like last year's Pixel 2 XL.
You can purchase the 3rd Gen Chromecast from the Google Store here.
Plenty of details about the new smartphones have appeared online, although Google has sought to poke fun at the rumours.
