Game 3 becomes longest postseason contest in Major League Baseball history

Exhausted yet exhilarated, the Dodgers headed home for a catnap.

But the Red Sox couldn't close it out.

Max Muncy hit a game-ending home run in the 18th inning as the Los Angeles Dodgers earned a dramatic 3-2 victory over the Boston Red Sox in the longest World Series game ever played.

Game 3 veered from a slow-burner to extraordinary as the records tumbled: becoming the first World Series game to enter a sixth hour (then a seventh) and eventually finishing at a time of seven hours, 21 minutes.

"The feeling was just pure joy and incredible excitement", he said. Though he made his debut past year, he was not on the postseason roster for the team as they reached the World Series.

The Red Sox have exhibited unparalleled resilience all season, and they're going to need it. With two out, a runner on second and the Red Sox clinging to a one-run lead, Yasiel Puig hit a slow roller toward Kinsler. Doesn't mean I didn't get my hopes up when I'm looking in the dugout and they're checking the replay to see if they want to check it or not. It's tough to swallow.

"I feel like I let the team down right there", he said.

If you Google search "Boston Red Sox championships", they post nine World Series titles instead of the eight they actually have.

"We had some situations that we could have put them away and then we didn't".

Said one fan, "I hope this game never ends".

Cody Bellinger used his left arm to bail the Dodgers out late in the 10th inning, tossing a laser and throwing out Ian Kinsler at the plate to keep the game tied at 1-1.

Muncy nearly ended it in the 15th with a long drive that just hooked foul before Eovaldi eventually struck him out.

"I had the last out in my glove", Kinsler said. Never before had a Series game gone more than 14 innings. Yuck. He had come off the bench in each of the first two games of this series, too. Duke Snider (11) and Gil Hodges (5) are the lone Dodgers players with more in the Fall Classic.

"It was a must-win for us".

Alyssa Milano rooted for the LA Dodgers as the World Series returned to Los Angeles on Friday.

The blown save spoiled a brilliant outing from Dodgers rookie right-hander Walker Buehler, who gave up just two hits over seven scoreless innings. Lost the lead in the eighth inning when Jackie Bradley Jr.'s two-out homer matched Joc Pederson's shot in the third.

Los Angeles answered with the tying run in the bottom of the inning.

Appearing in his third straight World Series game Eovaldi started the 18th, with 90 pitches and watched Muncy drive a full-count pitch over the left-center field fence. So Roberts turned to his ace Kershaw, who handles the bat well by the standards of starting pitchers. More remarkably, as tweeted by, is this game took longer than the entire 1939 Series, in which the Yankees swept the Reds in four games that took a cumulative 7:05 to play.
