Gales and heavy rain to end the week

Orange warning ahead of strong winds and high tides

However, as Friday progresses the winds are likely to ease across some parts of Northern Ireland.

The weather warnings are coming thick and fast and Met Éireann has even issued a scary "risk to property and life" statement.

While heavy rain is expected to continue into Saturday, the wind is now forecast to ease off by Friday evening.

A YELLOW weather warning has been issued for heavy rain for Friday October, 12.

A storm that's been dubbed "Callum" will pass to northwest of the United Kingdom on Friday, bringing winds of up to 70mph and a prolonged downpour that will create hazardous conditions across the country.

Before all that happens Thursday will be a day of heavy rain in many places.

Storm Callum is set to hit Irish shores this week.

The strongest winds are expected across eastern areas of Northern Ireland during the early hours of Friday morning followed by Scotland from mid-morning onward.

Yellow Met Office Weather Warnings for wind and rain are in force for Friday and Saturday.

Head of Forecasting at Met Eireann Evelyn Cusack said a combination of storm-force winds and high tides means there is a possibility of flooding along the east, south and west coast as far north as Donegal.

Pembrokeshire County Council is also warning residents to be aware of the potential for danger and disruption.

There is also a status orange marine warning in effect for sting gales in all coastal areas.

High winds with gusts of 50mph to 60mph around exposed coasts and hills are also forecast.

"The rain is expected to be accompanied by strong winds, which may increase autumnal leaf fall and potential for blocked drains/culverts, heightening the potential for flooding".

"Our teams are doing all they can to reduce the risk for communities, but if there is flooding we want to make sure people are doing all they can to keep themselves safe".

James Nicholas of Arriva Trains Wales said: "There is significant rain expected this weekend across Wales coupled with high winds and very high tides, particularly up on the Cambrian Coast - linking in to Shrewsbury".
