Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 has a 50GB day one patch

Call of Duty Black Ops 4 may support mods, Treyarch will look at adding support post-launch

At the very least, maybe developers will be able to keep day one updates at a reasonable size. Shared earlier today, the post outlines the expected installation size on both systems, as well as the required space needed to install the game and its day one update.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 buyers who purchase a physical copy of the game will have to download a 50GB day-one update before playing. With these bigger file sizes has also come the annoyance of day one updates, which are a requirement for online play.

For an optimized download experience, players should have 112 GB of free hard drive space - note that this is not the size of the download, it is the amount of space required to complete the installation process.

Treyarch claimed that it is serious about the PC version of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, so it will be interesting to see whether the team has addressed the low-resolution textures in the Blackout mode, and whether it will run smoothly on various PC configurations.

The news comes from a post over on Activision's installation and setup pages for Black Ops 4. The Blackout battle royale game mode will apparently be fully playable once 16-20 GB of the install is completed. In order to play Blackout before the full installation is complete, select "Update to Latest Version" when the prompt appears. "Download speeds may vary based on region, platform, connection type, and the speed of your internet connection". Patch contents are included in the game's pre-load, for digital owners, but those opting for the physical version can't get around this. Raru pre-orders can expect delivery on Thursday too.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will be out on 12th October for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
