United States recoils from 'cop killing' in Dallas of Botham Jean

Merritt also slammed Dallas police for carrying out the warrant that revealed that marijuana had been found in Botham's apartment, describing the investigation as tainted and discriminatory.

Apartment staff notified residents in an email Sunday morning that Guyger "has vacated her apartment and no longer resides at our community".

Shortly after the news station was eviscerated on Twitter by people on both sides of the aisle, they changed their headline. To make matters worse, for some reason after the fatal shooting, Dallas police obtained a search warrant for his apartment.

She called 911 and, when asked where she was, returned to the front door to see she was in the wrong unit, according to the affidavit.

Jean was killed September 6 at the South Side Flats apartment complex when Guyger mistook his apartment for her own and shot him. She claimed she saw a "large silhouette" from across the room, believed it was a burglar and fired her gun twice, striking him in the torso and killing him, the arrest affidavit states.

Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings and Dallas Police Chief U. Renee Hall were among those who attended the hymn-filled funeral. Guyger was no-billed in that case, meaning she was cleared of all charges.

"On the night that he was killed the Dallas Police Department investigators were interested specifically in finding information that could help assassinate his character and that could not be probative whatsoever to the homicide investigation that should have been their utmost priority".

The attorneys have questioned why police would have including searching for "narcotics" in the affidavit seeking to search Jean's apartment.

Jean then "confronted" Guyger "at the door", the document says, adding, "A neighbor stated he heard an exchange of words, immediately followed by at least two gunshots". It is the further victimization of a dead Black man. Others thought the cop left the pot behind because also on the list of items recovered in the search warrant were a police-issued laptop computer and other officer gear.

Guyger was off-duty when the shooting occurred, but still in uniform after completing her shift.

Still, Jean's mother condemned the release of the information about drugs in her son's apartment.

It is time that we recognise that lives matter. Give me justice for my son because he does not deserve what he got, ' Allison Jean said in comments reported by CNN.

The arrest affidavit for Guyger, filed by a Texas Ranger and based off of Guyger's version of events, claims Guyger "inserted a unique door key, with an electronic chip, into the door key hole. My son's life mattered".
