Umpires reportedly considering boycott of Serena Williams matches

Herald Sun | An Australian caricature of Serena Williams has sparked controversy including charges that it is racist

Following the match Williams cited sexism as the reason for her punishment, claiming that she had been treated more harshly than a man would have been.

Osaka revealed on Ellen DeGeneres' TV show this week that she doesn't actually own a vehicle. It also showed her opponent Naomi Osaka, of Japanese and Haitian heritage, as a petite pale woman speaking to the umpire as he asks her to "Let [Serena] win".

The cartoonist suspended his own Twitter account early this week due to abuse and threats toward him and his family as a result of the cartoon. "It had nothing to do with gender or race".

This is said to be because the CEO of the Women's Tennis Association (WTA), Steve Simon, and the U.S. Tennis Association President Katrina Adams, had released statements in support of Serena.

At the US Open, Umpire Carlos Ramos warned Williams for receiving coaching from the sidelines before docking her a point for smashing her racket. Open Women's Singles Final. "In fact, this is the sort of behaviour that no one should be engaging in on the court".

"For me I don't feel sad because I wouldn't even know what I'm expected to feel", said Osaka, who has climbed from 19th to seventh in the new world rankings.

For what was Serena Williams penalised?

Williams accused Ramos of being "sexist" by suggesting the same penalty wouldn't be handed out to a male player, however Strycova wasn't buying it and thought the outburst warranted Ramos' intervention.

"Crisis creates an opportunity to get it right", she said.

Williams, who has since been fined $17,000 by the United States Tennis Association for the violations, vigorously disputed each of them during the match.

"I think the umpire did what was within his rights", he told BBC Sport ahead of Britain's Davis Cup tie with Uzbekistan in Glasgow.

"Me, as a woman, take a lot of warnings", she added.

A WTA Tour star has called out Serena Williams over her "bulls-t" US Open final meltdown.

Ramos called three rules violations against Williams during the event.

Ramos told the Portuguese newspaper, Tribuna Expresso, "I'm fine, given the circumstances".

"It was here that Ms. Williams really started to lose the plot".

"The decisions made by Ramos had nothing to do with sexism or racism".

William's loss cost her a chance to equal Margaret Court's record of 24 Grand Slam titles. Calling him a "thief" reportedly earned her a full game penalty.
