Trump promises all-out response to Hurricane Florence

Donald Trump Hurricane Florence

"3000 people did not die in the two hurricanes that hit Puerto Rico", Mr Trump wrote on Twitter, without offering evidence for the claim.

Interested in Donald Trump? When asked about the USA response to last year's devastating hurricanes Maria, Harvey, and Irma, Trump said they deserved an excellent grade.

Last month, almost one year after Maria struck Puerto Rico, the island's government raised the official death toll to 2,975 people - a dramatic increase on the previous official figure of 64.

San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulin Cruz, who has been in a war of words with Trump over the federal response to Hurricane Maria, shot back minutes later Thursday morning.

The George Washington University study, requested by the governor of Puerto Rico, examined an unusually long period of time following the storm in an attempt to detect the hurricane's lingering, indirect effects on mortality. "Bad politics. I love Puerto Rico!"

CBS News first reported the existence of the unused water pallets, showing images of them on the runway in the community of Ceiba, Puerto Rico. He also said he was still waiting for Trump to respond to a petition to help Puerto Rico complete work on emergency housing restoration programs and debris removal.

The investigation looked at the total number of deaths from September 2017 through February 2018, and compared it with typical death rates, adjusting for many variables, including the hundreds of thousands of Puerto Ricans who evacuated the territory after the storm struck on Sept. 20.

"I ignore them because none of them make sense", said Michelle Cruz, a 48-year-old airline worker whose mother died in December from septicemia after contracting an infection in a hospital during surgery after Maria.

The official figure was released last month after an independent study.

The emergency supplies were brought in by FEMA in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria, which smashed the island and left its residents without power, without roofs and without running water.

At a briefing with FEMA Administrator Brock Long on Tuesday to discuss preparations for Hurricane Florence, Trump was asked about lessons learned from Maria that could be applied to storm preparation this year.

The panel seemed to agree that Trump hasn't done very much to convince the Puerto Rican people he really sympathizes with them.
