Trump mocks Obama for doubting his economic plan

Donald Trump and Barack Obama

"It was 100% my fault and I apologized immediately", Hassett said, hand over his heart.

Hassett addressed a Trump tweet, in which the president falsely claimed that America's GDP outgrew the unemployment rate for the first time in a century, by correcting his boss.

Gross domestic product under Trump hit 4.1 percent in the second quarter of this year - showing a growing economy.

Hassett kicked off the presser by displaying several charts that he claimed showed positive numbers for the economy under Trump. "And at some point somebody probably conveyed it to him adding a zero to that and they shouldn't have done that". Economists do not usually compare the GDP rate, which measures the pace of economic growth, with the unemployment rate in that way.

Standing behind the same podium where the former White House press secretary Sean Spicer once falsely claimed that Trump's inauguration drew the largest crowd there had ever been, Hassett thanked the reporter for the chance to set the record straight.

A new question was added to that category over the weekend when former President Barack Obama returned to the stump to campaign for Democrats in the midterm elections: Could Donald Trump have beaten Obama in an election for president? What magic wand do you have?

"The economic boom continues; it's the biggest story of 2018", White House economic adviser, Larry Kudlow, said in a video clip. He said the "100 years" statement was a mistake Hassett himself could not explain.

This wasn't the first time Hassett has weighed in on a presidential tweet.

Trump said on Monday in a posting on Twitter.

Trump regularly deletes and re-posts tweets to correct misspellings or to rephrase his points.
