Storm Helene to unleash DAMAGING winds and TROPICAL air next week

TROPICAL UPDATE A lot to track in the Atlantic even the Gulf gets in on the action

The storm is located about 1,350 miles south-southwest of the Azores, and it is moving north-northwest at 14 mph.

Tropical storm conditions are expected within the tropical storm warning area beginning within the next few hours through the afternoon.

The 8 a.m. forecast on Hurricane Florence reinforces projections that the storm's path will shift slightly to the southeast as it closes in on the Carolinas.

There is the potential for damaging winds with gusts up to 70mph possible, with sustained winds of 30 to 40mph.

N.H.C. said at 5:00 p.m. that the center of Tropical Storm Isaac was located near latitude 14.9 North, longitude 63.2 West. Isaac is moving toward the west near 16 miles per hour (26 km/h), and this general motion with a decrease in forward speed is expected for the next few days. "What we will get are the remnants of the tropical storm".

News 6's Erik Sandoval was live in Wilmington shortly before the storm made landfall.

President Donald Trump declared states of emergency for North and SC and Virginia, opening the way for federal aid.

"Florence is forecast to be an extremely unsafe major hurricane as it approaches the US coast", the NHC said.

With the expected track bringing a weakening Florence along the eastern and eventually northern outskirts of the CSRA, that means the rain/wind will be the most extreme in those areas. If the two systems become tropical storms, it would be the first time the Atlantic has had five named storms at once, Colorado State University meteorologist Phil Klotzbach said.

As of Tuesday evening, this storm is a Category Four and is expected to remain strong as it heads towards the coast of North Carolina.

Florence remains a powerful Category 4 hurricane and may strengthen further today and tonight.

"We took all the furniture from the outside inside already to make sure it doesn't blow away", said Brenda Lyle-Murphy.

A tropical wave in the Gulf of Mexico is still being monitored, but its chance of development in the coming days has decreased.

"Cloudiness and showers associated with a trough of low pressure over the south-central Gulf of Mexico have decreased since yesterday and the Air Force reconnaissance plane scheduled to investigate the system for today will likely be canceled", said the NHC on September 12. The storm, which just days earlier had been a hurricane, weakened significantly as it approached the the Lesser Antilles and passed with little notice in the USVI, stirring some winds and bringing some hit-or-miss showers to the territory but little else.
