Seahawks on verge of signing linebacker Mychal Kendricks

Former Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Mychal Kendricks holds the George Halas Trophy after the Eagles won last season's NFC championship

He was immediately released from Cleveland, where he had signed a one-year contract in the offseason.

According to Schefter, Kendricks will play Monday night when the Seahawks take on the Bears at 8:15 p.m. ET.

Prosecutors said Kendricks netted close to $1.2 million in profits off the trading during his two-year arrangement with a former Goldman Sachs analyst.

It has been a week since Mychal Kendricks pleaded guilty to insider trading, but that doesn't necessarily mean his National Football League career is over.

Kendricks, 27, is a six-year National Football League veteran who, prior to Cleveland, had spent his entire career with the Philadelphia Eagles.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the team will sign Kendricks, who made his name as a longtime starter with the Philadelphia Eagles but was cut by the Cleveland Browns in August after he was charged with insider trading.

Kendricks pled guilty before a federal judge earlier this month and faces up to 25 years in prison, with sentencing scheduled for December. Browns GM John Dorsey indicated Kendricks lied to the team about his role and involvement in the insider trading scam after the team him as a free agent in the spring. His sentencing is for January 24.

National Football League spokesman Brian McCarthy said the situation is under review and Kendricks is now allowed to sign and participate in activities, including games.

After playing college football for the University of Calfornia, he was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft.
