What just happened? The Weather Channel is using technology from Epic to help its viewers visualize the deadly storm surge that Hurricane Florence may be capable of producing.

The 61-year-old, who has been reporting for the Weather Channel for 25 years, is seen "bracing for his life" digging his feet deep into the grass to prevent himself from blowing away.

Forecasters warned that drenching rains of up to 3 feet (approximately 1 metre) as the 90mph (145km/h) storm crawls westward across North and SC could trigger epic flooding well inland over the next few days.

Weather Channel meteorologist Mike Seidel went viral for seemingly exaggerating Hurricane Florence's power during live camera interview. But then, two men enter the frame behind him and seem to have no trouble walking around.

Some social media users made a decision to recreate the "dramatic" coverage.

The amusing clip of reporter Paul Goodloe went viral on Twitter on Friday after it was posted by @gourdnibler with the caption, "So dramatic!"

"So dramatic!" the Twitter user who posted the clip, which was viewed almost 18 million times as of Saturday afternoon.

Now a spokesman for The Weather Channel is defending Seidel saying, it's important to note that the two individuals in the background are walking on concrete, while Seidel tries to maintain his footing on wet grass.

Hurricane Florence has brought turbulent weather, power outages and flooding to the United States east coast - but it's also proved an opportunity for one weather station to show off a little bit.
