Rockstar have announced that Red Dead Online's launch won't come until November, the month after Red Dead Redemption 2's release, and even then it will be starting as a beta and not as a "finished" product.

Rockstar has taken the wraps off of its plans for Red Dead Redemption 2's online mode, named simply Red Dead Online.

In an exclusive interview with IGN, Rockstar representatives said that they're taking a lot of inspiration from GTA Online, and are looking at ways to apply the template acquired from there on Red Dead Online.

"There are a few reasons for this", Sarwar says.

"We believe this way of rolling out will give people the best overall experiences with both single player and multiplayer". As for the game itself, Red Dead Redemption 2 drops for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 players on October 26th to kick off the holiday season. Players will have access to the entire game world while in Red Dead Online.

The online portion uses the gameplay Red Dead Redemption 2 as a foundation, and will receive "constant updates" and "adjustments" over the course of its lifetime. It's no surprise then that Rockstar is going all out to make Red Dead Online as good as it can be. "This should feel intimate and personal while still feeling fun and action-packed from moment to moment". Considering Heists, "After Hours", "The Doomsday Heist", and "Gun Running" the crux of what the online component of "Grand Theft Auto" had to offer, those elements were rolled into things that the team wanted to also see in "Red Dead Online", as well as pieces of the old "Red Dead Redemption" multiplayer mode. Rockstar seems keen to get it right from the start this time, admitting "we feel Grand Theft Auto Online really only found its feet creatively with Heists". Perhaps Rockstar is trying to replicate this success with a similar take on Red Dead Redemption 2.
