People Can't Believe These Taped-Up, Dirty-Looking Sneakers Cost $530

Massive Backlash Against Expensive'Taped Up Sneakers For Glorifying Poverty

The Golden Goose sneakers, dubbed the "Superstar Taped Sneaker", boast "Crumply, hold-it-all-together tape" and "a grungy rubber cupsole". But the shoes, which are made by Golden Goose, are being criticized on social media for "making light of poverty".

Nordstrom just stocked up on a new pair of sneakers that look worn, and it's going to cost you $530 if you're interested.

Nordstrom has designed clothes that have a distressed look in the past.

Some think that the taped-up sneakers are freaky and overpriced.

For others, they condemned the whole luxury fashion industry for coming up with a similarly ridiculous and insulting trend while the society looked down on people who have no other choice but to wear tattered apparel.

One Twitter user confronted Nordstrom on the platform, writing: 'So, ⁦@Nordstrom⁩ thought what folks HAD to do because they didn't have any money, should be exploited for $500+???

Another person Tweeted, "The "Golden Goose" here is anyone who would consider paying $530 for these glorified poverty sneakers". The company recently sold a pair of PRPS men's trousers, caked with fake dirt, for $425; and a pair of Topshop "mom jeans" with see-through knees for $95.

In 2016, Golden Goose faced the same situation for featuring a line of sneakers with tape and scuff marks available in pink and blue colors for $590.

The brand attracted backlash too, with some accusing Golden Goose of "poverty appropriation" - but the outrage didn't deter the retailer from coming up with new versions of the design two years later.
