Nintendo Switch Firmware 6.0.0 Arrives September 18, 2018

Nintendo is rolling out its Switch Online service next week

Nintendo also took the opportunity to announce that the Switch Online service will begin in North America on Tuesday, September 18. Both have offered online services for years, but at a much costlier price.

Another long requested feature, cloud saves, will become available with this new service although it appears not all games will be taking advantage of the feature.

The start date for the online service was presumably going to be announced last week during the planned Nintendo Direct, but the presentation was cancelled following a major quake in Japan.

At the moment, all we really know for sure is that Nintendo Switch Online will enable subscribers, for about $20 a year, to play their games online; something we can already do for free.

Nintendo plans to give more details about Nintendo Switch Online at an event tomorrow.

That said, it's not all rosy: One of the biggest disappointments about the proposed online play of the Switch was that the only way to get voice chat going was apparently via the dubious Switch Online app. Obviously, you'll need to update in order to the Nintendo Switch eShop as well as Nintendo Switch Online.
