Meghan Markle Gets a Visit from Mom for Cookbook Event

Meghan Markle Is Part of a New Cookbook Project

Meghan Markle hosted her first major event at Kensington Palace on Thursday and she did it alongside her mother, Doria Ragland, and husband, Prince Harry.

The book, Together: Our Community Cookbook, contains 50 recipes from a group of women who began cooking together after they were affected by the 2017 Grenfell Tower fire.

Her appearance alongside her famous daughter was unusual as non-royal family members do not attend official royal engagements. "I'm serious", she told the women, adding that Markle "felt very much at home" while working in the kitchen. "It's the story behind it", she said.

The pair were out and about with Meghan's mom Doria Ragland to promote the release of the Duchess's new cookbook.

"I'd just recently moved to London and I felt so immediately embraced by the women in the kitchen by your warmth and your kindness".

Ragland, who wore a camel coloured sweater, pants and matching shawl, reportedly introduced herself as "Meg's mom" and if you didn't love both of them before, now you do. Markle also penned the book's foreword, in which she discussed the importance of the kitchen to the Grenfell community.

There was a large range on the menu, including coconut chicken curry, aubergine masala and a range of chapatis and sharing dips.

The Duchess of Sussex said she was inspired by the women she met. (AAP) Meghan impressed the group by speaking without note for five minutes.

The duchess's mother Doria Ragland was a surprise visitor for the launch of the cookbook, which will raise funds for the Hubb Community Project created last summer by survivors of the blaze that killed 71 people after engulfing the 24-storey social housing block in west London.

Serena Williams, who has been friends with the former actress for years, praised Meghan's first solo project as a royal in a sweet Instagram post on Monday.

However, there are reports Meghan has made a secret trip to Los Angeles to see her mother since then and is considering moving to the United Kingdom to be close to her only daughter. And when you get to know the story of the recipe, you get to know the person behind it. Doria keeps it classy and low-key, all while lending her support, showing how proud she is, and just being present - nothing more.
