LA Clippers may have to wait for Butler according to recent reports

It's already time to pump the breaks regarding Jimmy Butler to the Los Angeles Clippers.

Jimmy Butler made headlines recently when it was reported by The Athletic's Shams Charania and Jon Krawczynski that the four-time All-Star had requested a trade out of Minnesota, with the New York Knicks being one of his preferred destinations.

Nevertheless, Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor plans to be heavily involved in the decision-making process with president of basketball operations Tom Thibodeau and GM Scott Layden, league sources said. That means Thibodeau is ignoring the fact that not only does Butler want out, but also that Butler's relationship with Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins appears to be fractured beyond fix. While the Timberwolves reportedly don't want to trade Butler, the Marquette product will be a free agent next offseason and it doesn't sound like he wants to make the Twin Cities his long-term home.

Given the chaotic nature of the situation, Butler sought and has been granted permission not to appear at the team's media day on Monday, when every player on.

Whatever the case may be, it's evident the front office is playing the waiting game with Butler.

It's also worth noting that Butler didn't include the Lakers on his shortlist of preferred trade destinations, which now include the New York Knicks, the Brooklyn Nets, and the Los Angeles Clippers.

Butler is eligible for a five-year, $190 million contract extension with the Wolves or with a team that acquires him in a trade. This seems to indicate that Butler will force Taylor's hand and trade him prior to the season starting.
