Jimmy Butler requests trade, 76ers could be highly interested

Are the Cavs monitoring the Jimmy Butler situation?

Jimmy Butler asked to be traded to one of three teams Tuesday: the Clippers, Nets or Knicks. It later came out that out of the three, Butler had his attention on Los Angeles due to the team having cap space next summer to not only sign him to an extension, but to also bring in another max-contract caliber player.

Butler and Andrew Wiggins have been teammates for only one season, as Minnesota head coach/president of basketball operations Tom Thibodeau traded Zach LaVine, Kris Dunn and the draft rights to Lauri Markkanen to the Chicago Bulls to acquire Butler. ESPN's Adiran Wojnarowski reported that Butler is "most determined to find a way" to the Clippers. Theoretically, they could ship Butler, Jeff Teague and the young center Justin Patton to the Cavs for Collin Sexton, Cedi Osman, Ante Zizic and George Hill. With headlines about Butler trades and his preferred destinations, only a fellow former Golden Eagle can be bold enough to pull a clever recruitment like this.

That's because in what's shaping up to be a loaded 2019 free agent class, Butler has circled both the Knicks and Nets as potential landing spots.

A year later, Markannen is an All-Rookie first teamer after averaging 15.2 points and 7.5 rebounds in 68 games, flourishing as a stretch power forward.

Ed Davis signed with Brooklyn on a one-year deal on July 23, meaning he can not be traded before December 15, per Larry Coon's NBA Salary Cap FAQ. (See Leonard, Kawhi). And Vegas thinks the Sixers are the most likely new team for Butler to start the season on.

NY is most likely going to have to find a third team in order to put together a packaged deal that will make it worthwhile for the T-Wolves. The Los Angeles Lakers will probably emerge onto the playoff scene with the arrival of LeBron James. His Paul Gauguin seems to be Kyrie Irving, as Butler pines for a collaborative friendship that he believes will keep his demons at bay.
