Here's Everything New At Apple: iPhone, Apple Watch, iOS And More

On Tuesday, at Apple's latest event at the Steve Jobs Theater, CEO Tim Cook announced the launch of three different iPhone devices: iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR.

"The Xs and Xs Max will essentially be new versions of the OLED iPhone X-the screen on the Max is an enormous 6.5" size with an edge-to-edge display, and the regular XS is 5.8" just like the regular X was. Both versions come in gold, space grey, or silver finishes.

Without testing the new iPhone Xs Max out in person it's hard to get a feel for things.

The iPhone XR, which was also rumored to be named the iPhone XC, is expected to be a rare budget option from Apple, using an LCD screen as opposed to a nicer, more expensive OLED screen.

As with the iPhone X, the new phone has a screen that runs from edge to edge, an effort to maximize the display without making the phone too awkward to hold.

Apple also pulled out one of its favorite marketing tricks and will offer the iPhone XR in six colors: black, red, white, yellow, coral and blue. And just like on the iPhone X previous year, you'll now swipe up from the bottom of the display in order to return to your Home screen.

New photography feature SmartHDR takes four shots at multiple exposures, including long exposure, and uses artificial intelligence to select the best picture as the final presented image. Rather than luring millions of new iPhone users, Apple's goal these days is to steadily raise average prices, while expanding the total number of active devices to support sales of accessories and digital services like iCloud storage, streaming music and video.

Shares of fitness device rival Fitbit Inc fell 6.9 percent after the Series 4 announcement on Wednesday. The Apple Watch heart monitor will now do long-term cardiac monitoring, warning when your heart beats irregularly.

The mostly excellent Galaxy S9's new features aren't quite as good as we'd like, but you'll probably want to buy one anyway. Other products are going to be a big part of this week's story for Apple.

Dr. Ivor Benjamin, the American Heart Association president, came on stage to praise Apple's health efforts and said he was "inspired by the life-saving potential of technology". Facial recognition technology has been around on other phones for years, but Apple made it more effective and more secure. You can also change the depth of field after taking photos.

"This update really establishes the company's increasing efforts to push the watch as a serious medical device", he said of Apple.

Nash showed off a version of the HomeCourt mobile app built for the new iPhones that can track a person's movements on a basketball court without the help of additional sensors scattered around the area. Samsung launched its Note line in 2011 with a 5.3-inch phone that seemed comical at the time. The phone also packs improved sensors for faster Face ID functionality.
