Elizabeth Smart’s kidnapper has been released from prison

Elizabeth Smart: Accomplice in My Kidnapping Will Be Watched

She also doubts Barzee regrets her role in the kidnapping. She was convicted on both state and federal crimes and was transferred to the Utah state prison in April 2016 after finishing a federal sentence in Texas. Utah officials discovered the error and set Wanda for release. One month after Mitchell and Barzee kidnapped Smart, the couple tried to break into the house where Smart's cousin lived, prosecutors and police said.

Smart used words like "evil", "dark" and "twisted" to describe what Barzee was like when she was held captive.

Barzee was convicted and sentenced for helping to kidnap Smart, who was 14 at the time, from her bedroom in Salt Lake City in 2002, drawing worldwide headlines.

Smart says she's exploring her "options" and plans to speak publicly in the coming days. The woman who helped her husband, Brian David Mitchell, kidnap and sexually assault a teenage Elizabeth Smart, 30, over a nine-month period in 2002, will taste freedom again, and that has left Elizabeth feeling sick to her stomach.

Barzee was serving a 15-year sentence when the Utah Board of Pardons and Parole unexpectedly credited her for time served, moving up her release date from 2024. "I don't feel like she has taken any responsibility for her actions, so that's disappointing, but there's nothing we can do about it", he said.

Smart hasn't specified, but says she's taking extreme measures to protect her family.

"I do believe she is a threat, she is a woman who had six children and yet could co-conspire to kidnap a 14-year-old girl, and not only sit next to her while being raped, but encourage her husband to continue to rape me", Smart said. "'I mean, it's a bad thing that happened, but why didn't she do more?'"

Smart said that she doesn't know all the conditions of Barzee's release but that she's been told that a federal agent will keep a "close eye" on Barzee and that she would be returned to prison "as soon as she messes up". Her home will be subject to inspections as well, and she'll have to undergo some mental health treatment, the newspaper said. So I have faith in him.

She said the manuscript also contains other 'disturbing and risky ideas, ' though it is not clear how she knows she had it. "And they have been very good, and I'm hoping that's the way it will work", he said.

The board said at the June hearing that Barzee refused to take a psychological exam. She testified in 2010 against Mitchell and was given a plea deal on state and federal charges.

Barzee will be out of prison on Wednesday, something Smart is strongly against. "Ms. Barzee cannot legally be held in the Utah State prison beyond the length of her sentence".

Utah's U.S. Attorney John Huber said last week that if Barzee violates these conditions, she would be brought before a judge who has a "range of remedies" at his or her disposal, including sentencing Barzee to more time in federal prison before restarting her supervision. "Therefore Ms. Barzee's state sentence ends on September 19, 2018".

She is expecting her third baby in November.
