Celebs attend the Emmy Awards 2018 in Los Angeles
"Saturday Night Live" stars Kate McKinnon and Kenan Thompson opened the show with a musical number that riffed on the most diverse slate of Emmy nominees in the history of the Television Academy. Unfortunately, at the end of the song, the performers were informed it has not actually been solved, though that didn't stop John Legend from appearing onstage to close out the number with a resounding, "We solved it!".
Amazon's The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel was the big victor on Monday night, grabbing gold in five major categories, while FX's ACS: Versace claimed three major wins.
But the ceremony in downtown Los Angeles quickly went off script, with sentimental favorite Matthew Rhys winning the Emmy for best drama actor for spy thriller "The Americans" and Claire Foy earning a statuette for "The Crown".
At the gala, Peter Dinklage took home the best supporting actor prize for his portrayal of Tyrion Lannister on "GoT", which was ineligible past year.
Rachel Brosnahan from Highland Park and Alex Borstein from Deerfield were honored for the acclaimed Amazon series, which also won the prize for best comedy series.
Criss thanked Director Ryan Murphy for "entrusting" him with the role of Andrew Cunanan, the killer in the series.
Betty White, 96, thanked the industry for putting up with her. "That's a fact. Let that fire burn in your belly until your cold dead body is in a pine box six feet deep clutching all its Emmys to its chest".
Last year, Che said Boston was the most racist city he had ever visited.
And "Saturday Night Live" won the award for best variety sketch series.
