PS4 Pro 500 Million Play Station 4 3

Each system will also have a copper plate on the front with its limited edition serial number etched on.

The PlayStation 4 Pro 500 Million Limited Edition is due to release on August 24 and will be available for £449.99 ($499.99) - other pricing TBC. Limited to just 50,000 units worldwide the console will celebrate that fact that half a billion PlayStation consoles have been sold across the globe. PlayStation is celebrating the milestone of 500 million console sales in style this month with a limited edition PlayStation 4 Pro that comes kitted out with a translucent dark blue design and a whopping 2TB hard drive.

Sony recently announced that the PlayStation 4 has sold over 81.2 million consoles since it's launch in late 2013, putting it way ahead of the estimated 38 million of its rival the Xbox One.

The PlayStation brand has been around for nearly 24 years at this point, and in that time, Sony has sold a lot of consoles - more than 500 million, in fact.

"Extra Special" serial numbers like 09995, which is the USA launch date of the original PS, will be available. It's more than just a bog-standard PS4 Pro, though.

The 500 Million Limited Edition PS4 Pro will be available to purchase starting August 24 at select online retailers. Another serial number to keep an eye out for is 01013, which is the United States launch date of PSVR. We'll see the console launch at retailers around the USA on August 24, while the controller and headset will follow in early September. The DualShock 4 500 Million Limited Edition variant can also be purchased separately for RM 259. Additionally, you'll be able to buy a 500 Million Limited Edition Gold Wireless Headset with the same translucent blue design and copper detailing for $100 / £78 on September October 11 in Europe.
