Paul Pogba's Latest Comments Hint At Troubled Relationship With Mourinho

Man Utd news Jose Mourinho did not get the central defender he wanted on deadline day

Manchester United kicked off the Premier League season with three points against Leicester, but post-match interventions from Jose Mourinho and Paul Pogba hinted that tensions may linger behind closed doors at Old Trafford. "That's all I say".

"I wonder if Jose's words the other day, "Let's wait until the end of November", I would be very surprised if United weren't top of the league come the end of November".

"I have the foundations to do that here with the manager and my team-mates at Manchester United".

"I am someone who is not (in) a role that I give to myself".

United's performance on Friday failed to build on Paul Pogba's early penalty, as they were dominated by Leicester for spells before Luke Shaw scored an all-important second goal in the closing minutes.

The crowd went wild as players surrounded the World Cup victor, but one fan, who was named after the great George Best was celebrating more than most. I just try to help the team as much as possible, like they helped me too.

The United manager claimed during the tour of the USA that Pogba's form had improved during the World Cup because he was free from distractions and fully focused on football.

He wrote: "I'll always give my best to the fans and my teammates no matter what's going on".

Andreas Pereira, making his first United appearance since February 2016, looked sharp in midfield as did Pogba, who saw a long-range shot denied before Shaw's tried his luck.

After a week in which Pogba has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford, with Barcelona's interest piqued by the Frenchman's frosty relationship with Mourinho after he was repeatedly dropped last season, the Portuguese showed his faith in the midfielder by surprisingly handing him the armband.

Pogba said "everybody was on the same page" in the France dressing room, from manager Didier Deschamps to the kitman, physio and players.

And Savage says the Reds will push City this season, however, they're not good enough to win their first Premier League title just yet. I was meant to come inside and I managed to get in front of him [his marker] and put it in.

Showing few signs of rust despite only returning to training this week, the World Cup victor, wearing the captain's armband, impressed in possession and without it, leading by example and keeping his cool from the spot.
