Ohio State's Meyer Put On Leave, Investigation Opened

Urban Meyer needed to tell the truth about Zach Smith and report indicates he didn’t — which is a major problem

Within days, Courtney Smith claims, she heard from two close friends of Urban Meyer, who both asked her to not pursue the criminal charge. The incident happened the night of a party that Meyer threw for his coaches, including Smith, while they were at Florida. In fact, Courtney Smith told McMurphy that she and Shelley often discussed Zach's domestic violence. Even more troubling is that Meyer seemingly tried to cover up the allegations against Smith. Shelley Meyer allegedly wrote to Courtney in a 2015 text. Urban Meyer and anyone on his staff? That will be figured out through this investigation.

"The University is conducting an investigation into these allegations", the school said in a statement.

Meyer was the head football coach at the University of Utah in 2003-2004. "Never anything came to light, never had a conversation about it, so I know nothing about it".

The 2015 incident was the latest in a string of domestic situations Smith was involved in, but he was never charged.

But it does not look good.

"All the [coaches] wives knew", Courtney told McMurphy. Can an argument be made?

Urban Meyer's judgement is coming under increasing scrutiny. Did she not want to overburden him? Zach Smith was investigated in 2015 for suspicion of felony domestic violence after an incident that resulted in unspecified injuries and showed evidence of sustained abuse.

"All the [coaches'] wives knew", Courtney Smith told college football reporter Brett McMurphy in a story posted on his Facebook page.

"Shelley said she was going to have to tell Urban".

If one does not believe Meyer's statement at Media Days, everything else is in play.

A report on the incident was filed on October 26, 2015. And he chose not to act on it.

Courtney has alleged Zach had repeatedly abused her physically since 2009.

Ohio State has placed head football coachUrban Meyer on administrative leave in the wake of reports that he lied about having knowledge of a 2015 domestic violence allegation surrounding an OSU assistant coach.

"It's a decision that was made for the best interest of our team", Meyer explained last month.

Preseason camp starts later this week. In 2014, Meyer's third year on the sidelines, Ohio State won the College Football Playoff title with a record of 14-1.

I have no idea if Urban Meyer knew about the 2015 incident.

However, new developments suggest Meyer wasn't telling the truth. I don't know if there was chatter in the building.

USA TODAY's Dan Wolken suggested earlier this evening that Iowa State's Matt Campbell, an OH native, could be the top choice. McMurphy said that a collection of interviews and text messages show that Meyers must have known of the accusations.
