But she was sacked by incoming chief of staff Johny Kelly during a closed-doors meeting in December 2017.
In her book, Manigault Newman accuses Trump of making derogatory statements about African-Americans, Filipinos and other minorities, as well as exhibiting "forgetfulness and frustration".
Newman alleged the controversial billionaire asked if he could be sworn in as president using a copy of his book The Art Of The Deal instead of the Bible. She was sacked last December.
The Trump campaign is now seeking millions from Ms Manigault-Newman on grounds or her apparently breaking a non-disclosure agreement.
Other former West Wing staffers have landed in similarly paying gigs: Keith Schiller, Trump's longtime bodyguard and one-time director of Oval Office operations, makes $15,000 per month advising the Republican National Committee on security arrangements for the 2020 GOP convention.
"Omarosa? Omarosa, what's going on?" As you'll see in the clip below, she eventually settled on an embellished blush Ysa Makino design that, according to the show, was valued at $6,400.
She said she declined that offer.
"He goes, 'how do you think I should handle it, ' and I told him exactly what you just said, Omarosa", Ms Patton says, "which is 'well, it depends on what scenario you're talking about.' And he said, 'well, why don't you just go ahead and put it to bed'".
"I would further say that Omarosa, who I considered a colleague here and a friend for a very long time, a lot of us women put a shower together for her before she got married".
"When Gen. Kelly came on board he told me she was a loser & nothing but problems", Trump said in a tweet. He followed that comment up on Monday with a Twitter tirade of insults directed at Newman who he said "begged" him for a job with tears in her eyes. "She was vicious, but not smart".
When she was a contestant on the reality television programme The ApprenticeMr Trump had what must now seem like the pleasure of firing her. "And as a result, I resigned", she said. "I told him to try working it out, if possible, because she only said GREAT things about me - until she got fired!"
In tweets Monday night, Trump denied ever using "such a bad and disgusting word", and his aides have denied having strategized about how to contain the damage if such a tape surfaced.
"I don't have that word in my vocabulary, and never have".
In a morning tweet, Trump praised his chief of staff, John F. Kelly, for past year having fired Manigault Newman, the former reality television star who was the highest-ranking black employee in the White House. "I am going to continue to blow the whistle on all of this". This is his pattern with African Americans. But in this case, Trump appeared obsessed with protecting himself politically, and if Trump did put in place additional constraints, we needed to know what they were, and what his rationale for that was.
Perhaps more importantly they also want her to stop producing tapes of secretly-recorded conversations.
"As to the fact, whether or not General Kelly had called the President, I don't think he had at that point", Sanders said later, explaining why Trump could claim he wasn't aware of Manigault Newman's firing.
Tesla forms three-member panel to decide on any Musk deal
Musk added that most capital for the deal would come from equity and it would not be "wise" to burden the company with added debt. The board has given the committee authority to act on its behalf, including negotiating a deal to take Tesla private.
