Kepa Arrizabalaga ‘deal agreed’ as Chelsea trigger release clause

Glove affair Arrizabalaga is officially a Blue while Courtois was welcomed by Real on Twitter

Earlier on Wednesday, Bilbao confirmed that Kepa had paid his buyout clause at the league's headquarters in Madrid to free him from his contract with Athletic.

Real Madrid reached a deal with Chelsea for around 35 million euros to sign Thibaut Courtois, who will sign a six year deal.

"Chelsea and Real Madrid have tonight agreed terms for the permanent transfer of Thibaut Courtois subject to the agreement of personal terms and passing a medical". He came through the youth categories at Genk, he made his debut with the first team in the 2008/09 season and settled there for two seasons.

Kepa made his worldwide debut for Spain in November, keeping a clean sheet in a friendly win over Costa Rica, and was named to the Spain squad for the World Cup in Russian Federation this summer, though he didn't play.

In January, Madrid were set to meet his then-release clause of €20m as it looked increasingly unlikely that Navas would be renewing his contract with Madrid.

"I am very happy to continue in what I consider my home", Kepa stated at the time. We don't know what will happen in the future but I am very happy at Lyon.

"Athletic thanks the player for his contribution during the time he has remained in our club".

Julen Lopetegui says that he is reluctant to offload Mateo Kovacic, despite the midfielder wanting out of Real Madrid.

The 26-year-old only had a year left on his deal and has been absent from training this week as he looked to push through a move before the transfer window ended for the Blues on Thursday.

Real Madrid also announced it will loan midfielder Mateo Kovacic to Chelsea in a separate, but simultaneously completed, deal.

"On Wednesday 8 August, 2018, at 12:02 hours, the Spanish Football League [LFP] has certified to our club that player Kepa Arrizabalaga has complied with the requirements to end unilaterally his contract that linked him with Athletic Club", a statement issued by Athletic read.
