Jose Mourinho: 'I expect Matteo Darmian to stay at Manchester United'

The players have been suffering from injury and will be held out of the Manchester United squad for their second match of the Premier League season.

Having starred, and scored, in United's 2-1 victory, just four days after returning to pre-season training following his World Cup adventures, Pogba claimed: "There are things I can not say otherwise I will get fined".

Scholes agreed Pogba has not performed at the level expected of him often enough - United manager Jose Mourinho dropped him for the Champions League Last 16 clash with Sevilla last season - and said the captaincy could be the answer.

"There are things I can say and there are things I cannot say. otherwise I will get fined", Pogba said. [They are] fully fit but not yet [ready] to play or even to be selected, I think, and that's it.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference ahead of the Red Devils' trip to Brighton on Sunday, Mourinho also confirmed that Paul Pogba will wear the armband until the Ecuadorian resumes his position in the starting lineup.

"As a new player, you want to have a good performance in your home games and it's exactly the same for me".

However, Mourinho has said that Darmian is now likely to remain in the North-West, and feels that the 28-year-old can have no complaints having failed to find a new club. We never had a hard exchange of words.

"I don't care. I repeat: I want him to play well, I want him to play for that team, the fans, and that is what it is".

"I am here for two years and a couple of months and the only player that was fined was Anthony Martial, so it is not easy to be fined here".

"Please don't put him in a situation where people can think he's not a polite, educated guy, which he is".

"I think some of the best managers in the world have that about them and they know what's right, what's wrong and what they need to win games".

"So part of me goes "Paul, if you've got something to say, just say it because you've got plenty of money in the bank so you can pay the fine".

It seems somewhat unusual to suggest a player that you've constantly nagged at for showing a lack of application should have been made club captain the minute he entered the training ground, but that's our Paul.
