According to the CDC, 107 people in 21 states had the measles between January 1, 2018 and July 14, 2018.

According to the CDC, in 2017, 118 people from 15 states and the District of Columbia were reported to have measles.

The CDC says measles are still common in many parts of the world including some countries in Europe, Asia, the Pacific, and Africa, so travelers with measles can bring it into the U.S. If it reaches a community where people were also not vaccinated, the disease can spread.

Kids typically get the first shot at one and get a second shot before entering kindergarten, but if you're not sure of your immunization status, doctors say you can get a booster shot at any age. "CDC works with local and state health departments throughout the year on any number of infectious diseases, including measles cases", a CDC press officer told ABC News.

2015: The United States experienced a large, multi-state measles outbreak linked to an amusement park in California. Measles is highly contagious and is spread through the air by breathing, coughing, or sneezing.

"Atypical" measles may rarely develop in people who have partial immunity, which occurs when a person's immune response to a vaccine is enough to prevent severe infection or mortality, but not enough to protect them from becoming ill. People with the disease can remain contagious for up to four days. MMR vaccine is one of the required school immunizations in Indiana.

Dr. Michael McKenna with St. Vincent Medical Group urged all parents to get their child vaccinated.
