YouTube star Ryker Gamble dies after falling from waterfall

A rescuer scales the mountain face in Shannon Falls Provincial Park to search for the three missing people

Squamish RCMP said the trio, in their late 20s and early 30s, were swimming in one of the icy pools that form part of Shannon Falls, a 335-metre waterfall about 60 kilometres north of Vancouver.

Ryker Gamble, Alexey Lyakh, and Megan Scraper were part of High On Life, a travel vlog with more than 1.1 million followers on Instagram and more than 500,000 YouTube subscribers.

Adrenaline-junkie Ryker Gamble, 30, was with his channel co-creator Alexey Andriyovych Lyakh and Lyakh's girlfriend Megan Scraper when the three of them tragically plunged 100ft to their deaths at Shannon Falls in British Columbia.

The social media stars had traveled around Canada, the US, Europe, India, Thailand, Cambodia, Nepal, Indonesia, Vietnam, Mexico, Peru, Argentina and Brazil.

The accident happened when the three hiked up Shannon Falls and went into one of the pool systems nearby for a swim. "Your bright personality will be greatly missed", one person posted on Facebook.

They will be meeting with search-and-rescue crews soon to determine how to bring them out safely.

RCMP called in a swift water rescue team and an underwater recovery team, the RCMP said.

Gamble, Lyakh and another group member, Justis Price Brown, made headlines in 2016 and earned bans from US federal lands after they participated in an out-of-bounds excursion on a sensitive hot spring in Yellowstone National Park.

Speaking at a news conference Tuesday evening, Willcox said the camera was being used to check a specific pool after friends of the victims reported seeing them swept over the lip of one pool toward a second about 30 metres below.

Banks says efforts to find the three would continue overnight into tomorrow when additional RCMP and SAR teams will be on site.

"As of 6 p.m. tonight we have been unable to visually see anyone in the pool system, but the terrain is hard, very unsafe, and the water flow is heavy which is complicating the search".

Until the operation is complete, Shannon Falls and any trails leading to the pool system are closed to the public.

"Every year seems to be busier and busier", he said.

"Unless you have knowledge and the right equipment you should not be up there", she said.

"This is the first time I'm aware that anybody has gone over the falls", Willcox said, adding people should stay well away from the area. "And with more volume comes more responses".
