William Dunlop

The Northern Ireland road racer William Dunlop has died after a crash during practice for the Skerries 100 in County Dublin.

The funeral services for Joey and Robert were also at Garryduff Presbyterian Church and William will be buried alongside his father.

William's brother Michael, who holds the record for the fastest lap at Skerries, was also taking part in the practice run when William was killed.

The session was immediately red flagged but Dunlop was pronounced dead soon after having been attended to by medics.

Gardai said Sunday's race would go ahead as planned after the Dunlop family and the Loughshinny Motor Cycle Supporters Club said it would be a fitting tribute to the talented racer.

He revealed he withdrew from this year's Isle of Man TT races after receiving bad news about the pregnancy.

"Everyone's thoughts are with the family".

It's with great sadness we've learned that William Dunlop has passed away. Joey Dunlop remains the most successful man around the Isle of Man TT course, with 26 victories.

"A man in his 30s was fatally injured in a crash", a garda spokesman has confirmed.

"A motorcyclist who was a short distance behind William was covered in oil".

William was a member of the renowned Dunlop family and was a victor at the North West 200 and Ulster GP.

The 32-year-old Dunlop was riding in practice for the event when a crash occured.

A statement issued by the organising Loughshinny Motorcycle Club said: "The Loughshinny Motorcycle Supporters Club, organisers of the Skerries 100, deeply regrets to announce that competitor William Dunlop of Ballymoney, Co".

"I would ask the entire community, not just the constituency's road racing fraternity, to remember the Dunlop family circle in their thoughts and prayers as they face the challenge of yet another road racing tragedy".
