Trump Zeros in on Supreme Court Pick

Conservatives are claiming prospective candidate Brett Kavanaugh is too moderate, just before the president is expected to announce his pick on Monday. After Trump narrowly carried Michigan, Larsen recused herself from matters relating to Green Party candidate Jill Stein's request for a recount.

The source said Trump was still considering Judge Amy Coney Barrett, who serves on the Chicago-based 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Could President Donald Trump, who says he plans to announce his Supreme Court nominee Monday, deliver the Massachusetts-bred federal judge a surprise birthday present? "I do not think that the majority's references to the jury's moral judgment are necessary to resolve this case", wrote Judge Eric Clay, who came to the same conclusion upholding Gabrion's death sentence, but wrote separately specifically to object to Kethledge's sweeping moral reasoning. That's why some people argue for calm and caution in the upcoming process to appoint a Supreme Court justice to replace Anthony Kennedy. Some conservatives have been lobbying against him, worrying that his upbringing in the suburbs of Washington could mean he's the kind of justice who has disappointed conservatives before. And some reports say the president has narrowed the field to two or three and Lee is not among them. Susan Collins of ME, two relative centrists who have expressed concern over the dismantling of abortion rights in the U.S. "We are working furiously in Massachusetts to ensure that whatever happens on the Supreme Court, access to abortion in the commonwealth will not be in jeopardy", Rebecca Hart Holder of NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts told the Boston Herald. "We're going to do it at 9 p.m.in the White House", he told reporters. Both senators supported all three of Trump's reported finalists when they were nominated as circuit court judges.

"President Trump and conservatives can be sure that Lee won't change". As Trump's announcement nears, many have the future of Roe v. Wade top of mind.

She was confirmed 55 to 43 by the Senate, and three Democrats voted for her - Joe Manchin of West Virginia, Tim Kaine of Virginia and Joe Donnelly of Indiana. Many see being considered for the Supreme Court as an honor in itself, the confirmation gauntlet of senator meetings and packed hearings a hardship worth enduring for the lifelong job at the apex of the American justice system.

The messaging campaign will also underscore the risks faced by the Affordable Care Act (ACA) under a conservative Supreme Court. Former clerk for Justice Kennedy provides insight.

Kavanaugh previously served as a law clerk for Kennedy, an independent counsel in the Whitewater investigation, and as senior associate counsel and assistant to the president in the Bush administration. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., questioned Barrett about whether her Catholic faith might color her work on the bench. And Sens. Susan Collins, R-Maine, and Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, have set themselves up as key swing votes.

The vacancy left by Kennedy's retirement gives Trump a second opportunity to re-shape the high court.

"She said, 'I just saw you on TV!"
