Trump sides with Russian Federation against Federal Bureau of Investigation at Helsinki summit

Trump meets with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the G-20 Summit in Hamburg. Both leader will meet for summit on Monday

The damage inflicted by President Trump's naiveté, egotism, false equivalence, and sympathy for autocrats is hard to calculate.

The summit started late because Putin arrived in Helsinki about a half hour behind schedule in another display of the Russian's leader famous lack of punctuality.

In a tweet, he wrote: "Our relationship with Russian Federation has NEVER been worse thanks to many years of United States foolishness and stupidity and now, the Rigged Witch Hunt!"

Then he blamed Obama: "President Obama, he was the president for eight years".

McCain joined other congressional Republicans on Monday in contradicting Trump and acknowledging Russia's interference in the 2016 presidential election. Lindsay Graham, one of the president's golfing buddies.

Putin appeared to smirk as Trump ignored shouted questions about whether he would warn the Russian leader against meddling in the 2018 midterm elections.

"The president must appreciate that Russian Federation is not our ally", Ryan said, adding Moscow "remains hostile to our most basic values and ideals". Mr Trump told reporters during a breakfast Monday with Finland's president that he thought the summit would go "fine".

Corker, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, offered a theory about why Trump wouldn't criticize the Russian leader, a former KGB officer. I think the USA has been foolish.

Asked if Putin was an adversary, he said: "Actually I called him a competitor and a good competitor he is and I think the word competitor is a compliment". "I did not think this was a good moment for our country". "We have not been getting along well for the last number of years", Trump added.

"No negotiation is worth throwing your own people and country under the bus", she wrote on Twitter.

"Donald Trump's press conference performance in Helsinki rises to & exceeds the threshold of 'high crimes & misdemeanors.' It was nothing short of treasonous", Brennan, a frequent critic of Trump, tweeted during the event. John Brennan, who served as Central Intelligence Agency director between 2013 and January 2017, called the president's comments "treasonous".

Rep. Trey Gowdy, the chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, said in a statement that "Russia attempted to undermine the fundamentals of our democracy, impugn the reliability of the 2016 election, and sow the seeds of discord among Americans" and that he hoped Trump administration leaders "will be able to communicate to the President it is possible to conclude Russian Federation interfered with our election in 2016 without delegitimizing his electoral success".

When asked by a reporter whether he believed the various U.S. institutions that asserted Russian interference or Vladimir Putin, Trump did not provide a direct answer. Republican Patriots: "Where are you???"

'It followed more than two hours of one-on-one discussions involving just the USA and Russian leaders, with only translators present.

"When President Trump was at Moscow back then, I didn't even know that he was in Moscow", Putin said. Nobody informed me that he was in Moscow.
