Trump says Carter Page documents show DoJ and Federal Bureau of Investigation misled courts

Trump administration releases Carter Page wiretap documents

"This is so ridiculous, it's just beyond words", Page told CNN's Jake Tapper when asked if he was an agent of a foreign power. "I would say 90 percent of redactions are generally created to cover people's incompetence and they're not national security [concerns]".

In the documents released on Saturday, the Federal Bureau of Investigation cited a source which, it said, had a history of providing reliable information regardless of the source's reasons for conducting research into Mr Trump's ties to Russian Federation.

The US Government had monitored Page under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, and the heavily redacted documents were made public after media organisations sued for their release under the Freedom of Information Act.

Carter Page speaks with reporters in November 2017 following a day of questions from the House Intelligence Committee on Capitol Hill in Washington. Trump declassified the documents a year ago.

The warrants describe a trip Page took to Russian Federation in 2016 to speak at the New Economic School.

But lawmakers from both political parties said that the documents don't show wrongdoing and that they even appear to undermine some previous claims by top Republicans on the basis for obtaining a warrant against Page.

Tapper brought up a letter Page wrote where he described himself as an informal adviser to the Kremlin in advance of the 2013 G - 20 meeting in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

The request to wiretap Page noted that the resulting information could produce evidence of crimes.

"The FBI believes the Russian government's efforts are being coordinated with Page and perhaps other individuals associated with [Trump's] campaign", the application with the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court said.

Ms Pelosi added that the Republican's should stop trying to hinder the investigations "for the sake of our national security and our democracy".

The FBI released the previously secret document cache on Saturday night following Freedom of Information requests by several USA organisations.

He also charged that his campaign was illegally spied upon.

President Donald Trump claims it is "looking more & more" like his 2016 campaign "was illegally being spied upon" for the gain of his political rivals. "An illegal Scam!" Trump's follow up tweet on Sunday morning said.

"It was a solid application and renewals signed by four different judges appointed by three different Republican presidents", Schiff said on ABC's "This Week".

"Witch Hunt Rigged, a Scam!"

The DOJ did not immediately response to requests to comment on Trump's allegation.

The FBI cites "Source #1" for that information; that refers to former British intelligence agent Christopher Steele.

"Democrat Party hired the Perkins law firm". The FBI warrants note that Steele released his findings to USA news organizations over admonishment of the FBI, and as a result, the bureau ended its relationship with him.

He blamed Mr Trump for making public House Republicans' initial memo about the FISA applications, a move by Mr Trump that the congressman called "nakedly political and self-interested, and created to to [sic] interfere with the Special Counsel's investigation".
