Tourist stabbed in South Beach by homeless man with no arms

Lincoln Road Mall Miami near the scene of a stabbing by a man with no arms

Jonathan Crenshaw, 46, is known locally for the detailed works of art he creates using his feet, the same extremities police say he used to jam a pair of scissors into 22-year-old Cesar Coronado.

However, Crenshaw claimed he was acting in self-defense, telling police he was lying down and Coronado, who was visiting from Chicago, punched him in the head, according to Reuters. Crenshaw told officers he clutched the scissors with his feet and stabbed Coronado twice.

Barrientos described the attacker to police as a homeless, armless man. Officers found Crenshaw a short distance away and arrested him.

He was taken to the hospital. After stabbing him, he says he placed the scissors in his waistband and walked away from the scene.

The Miami Herald reports police found Coronado bleeding from his left arm.

He was detained near the attack in a popular shopping and tourist area near South Beach and charged with one count of aggravated battery, a second-degree felony, police said.

Crenshaw has been charged with aggravated battery. The police did not find Crenshaw under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the incident.

However, according to the Miami Beach Police Department, he does have an extensive criminal past.

Crenshaw has a court date on July 18; his bond has been set at $7,500.
