Putin slams US forces ready to 'sacrifice' Russia-US ties

"The Summit with Russian Federation was a great success, except with the real enemy of the people, the Fake News Media", Trump said on Twitter.

Sergei Aksyonov, the governor of Crimea, told the Russian state-run news service RIA Novosti: "I am positive that [Putin] is doing everything in his power to [get the U.S. to] recognise Crimea [as a Russian region] and lift the sanctions".

Coats once again criticized the president's statement in Helsinki as inconsistent with what multiple agencies have assessed.

People close to Trump reportedly speculated whether the president would fire Coats, with one source saying Trump never had a liking for him. The U.S. and Russia have been on opposing sides of the conflict in Ukraine, unleashed after a popular uprising against a pro-Russian president and Russia's annexation of Crimea in 2014. "There are many answers, some easy and some hard, to these problems ... but they can ALL be solved!" he said.

Russian Federation has not yet spoken about any second meeting with the American president. But what drew domestic criticism was Mr Trump's stand on alleged interference by Russian Federation in the 2016 U.S. presidential elections. Schiff then made his opening statement on Chinese threats, but took to Twitter to lament the motion's failure.

"We have been clear in our assessments of Russian meddling in the 2016 election and their ongoing, pervasive efforts to undermine our democracy", he said.

Both Trump and Putin have declared the meeting a grand success that is soon to reap great rewards in numerous geopolitical realms, yet even the most complete accounting of the talks - one provided by Putin - suggests that any outcomes are far from certain.

The interview comes after President Trump's meeting with the Russian leader in Helsinki on Monday and his shifting statements on whether he agrees with the findings of USA intelligence agencies that Russia interfered in the 2016 election.

When Coats learned during an interview Thursday at the Aspen festival that Putin was being invited to visit the U.S.in the fall, he made no effort to hide the weird nature of the situation. "But it's undeniable that the Russians are taking the lead on this".

As for Putin's offer on investigations, Sanders it was "made in sincerity" and the U.S. hopes he will have the indicted Russians "come to the United States to prove their innocence or guilt".

"It is a proposal that was made in sincerity by President Putin, but President Trump disagrees with it", Huckabee Sanders said.

The announcement seems to come as a surprise to US Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats, who was told about it during a live interview at the Aspen Security Forum in the state of Colorado. It was Congress' first formal rebuke of Trump's actions at the summit and in its aftermath. "We are doing much better than any other country!"

The White House meanwhile announced Trump has invited Putin for a second summit in Washington the fall.

"We have received no further direction than we've now been operating under", Gen. Joseph Votel said in a video-teleconference from his headquarters in Tampa, Florida.
