Producer, musician Richard Swift of The Shins dies at age 41

Richard Swift Dies at 41

Swift had been suffering from an undisclosed "life-threatening condition", and a GoFundMe was launched last month to pay for his medical expenses. He took the stage along with the Black Keys during their 2014 tour, where he played bass, and also drummed for The Arcs - a side project of the founder of the band, Dan Auerbach. Captioning the image: "Today the world lost one of the most talented musicians I know". He's now with his "Mom and Sister", the frontman remarked.

A Facebook post confirmed his death saying: "And all the angels sing "Que Sera Sera" Richard Ochoa Swift March 16, 1977 - July 3, 2018". In 2001, he moved to California and began self-releasing his home-recorded music - much of which was collected in The Richard Swift Collection, Vol. 1, a collection that Secretly Canadian released after Swift signed with the label in 2005.

Auerbach expressed his sadness at the news of Swift's death on Twitter, writing, "I will miss you, my friend".

Swift would eventually join the The Black Keys as their touring bassist and backing singer. A GoFundMe page was set up to help raise money for his medical bills, which were reportedly extensive.

During his career Swift produced for indie hitmakers Sharon Van Etten, Guster and many, many more.

Hoping to reach a $100k goal, the fund was able to gather $87,625 in just two weeks.

Being uninsured meant 'the cost of the care he is getting is a lot. "We are so grateful you have extended so much generosity and love to our beloved Swift", the update read.
