Original Lando, Billy Dee Williams, returning to Star Wars: Episode IX

BREAKING Billy Dee Williams Returning as Lando for Star Wars Episode IX

The actor will reprise his role as the intergalactic gambler and former smuggler Lando in Star Wars Episode 9, marking his first big screen return to the role since 1983's Return of the Jedi.

THR all, but confirm that Billy Dee Williams is stepping back into the breach as the ex-Cloud City Baron Administrator when Star Wars 9 rolls around in 2019.

Williams's most recent film was 2017's The Lego Batman Movie, where he voiced Harvey Dent, the lawyer who becomes supervillain Two-Face - a character he had previously played in Tim Burton's live-action Batman (1989).

Of course, Lando was popular enough already, based on his scoundrel-turned-hero character arc in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, but Donald Glover's performance (not to mention his capes) in Solo propelled him into the outer regions.

Williams is the latest actor to join the J.J. Abrams-directed Episode IX.

J.J. Abrams also co-wrote the script with Chris Terrio (Justice League, Argo).

The past month or so has seen a number of rumours that he'd return, after he started getting back into shape and cancelled a convention appearance due to scheduling conflicts, and now they've proved to be true.

The as-yet-unnamed Star Wars Episode IX reunites new stars Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac and Adam Driver.

That's a shame, really, especially when you factor in claims that Lucasfilm had initially hoped to delay the release of Han Solo's origins movie until December of 2018, only to be shot down by Disney.
