New Emojis Unveiled Just In Time For World Emoji Day

Here are the 70 new emoji coming to iOS

Poised to celebrate World Emoji Day on July 17, Apple has released previews of the next 70 emoji coming to iPhone, iPad, Macs, and Apple Watch with a free software update.

The update includes more than 70 images of people, animals, food and other objects.

The new emojis will better represent people with red hair, gray hair and curly hair as well as bald people, Apple said.

Healthy eaters will be delighted to learn that a mango and lettuce also made the cut - along with a cupcake for balance.

Twitter said in a statement, "Keeping in mind the popularity of emojis, Twitter has been actively introducing a variety of culture, entertainment, sports and news related emojis that range from iconic symbols to historic signs and motifs of festivals".

Apple says these will be available on all its platforms "later this year", which would mean not iOS 12 but a subsequent release like, say, iOS 12.1. Facebook users from the United States and UK used the "crying while laughing" emoji the most, also known as "joy".

Also on tap are a couple of new smiley faces, including one that's freezing cold with icicles hanging off its mouth and chin, and another with a party hat, paper horn, and confetti.

In the meantime, Google revealed the top ten most frequently used emojis on Gboard - with the LOL and kissing with heart characters leading the pack - and also launched a quirky AR game that lets you hunt for emojis in the real world.

When is World Emoji Day?

"In particular the redheads and curly-haired options are likely to be popular", CNN quoted him as saying.
