A park police officer in Chicago has been assigned to desk duty while officials investigate his response to a woman who said she was being harassed for wearing a shirt with the Puerto Rican flag.
Eventually the first officer on the scene takes notes of Irizarry's account of the incident and says that he was at the scene due to the separate incident, noting that she was not being attacked though acknowledging she felt threatened. He also said, "You're not going to change us". No, the world is not going to change the United States of America.
Irizarry asked a park police officer to intervene multiple times, pointing out that the man was harassing her, and that she paid to rent the area he was intruding on.
In the video, the man can be seen walking up to Irizarry, saying, "You should not be wearing that in the United States of America", and asking her, "Are you a citizen? Then you should not be wearing that", he said.
Other officers arrived on the scene, and while they were responding to a different report, Irizarry finally got the help she needed from them.
"Can you please step away from me?"
"This is what I'm wearing guys", she says revealing her outfit as a man yells at her in the background.
Now, an investigation has been opened into the incident, where the man-who was visibly drunk-verbally berated the woman and called her shirt un-American.

Speaking to CNN's Erin Burnett on Tuesday, Puerto Rico's governor said he was "appalled and disgusted" by the video. "I was denied entry into the Capitol complex by U.S. Capitol Police despite being a Congressman with identification, because my daughter was carrying a Puerto Rican flag and the officer doubted that I could possibly be a Member of Congress".
