McLeod's Forecast: Excessive Heat Warning

'Extreme, dangerous' heat to continue this week, meteorologists say

The Cape & Islands are not included in the Heat Advisory due to a southwesterly wind keeping temperatures slightly cooler than farther inland.

The temperatures on Tuesday will reach 90 degrees or higher in 44 states.

Service meteorologists said "hit or miss" rain showers and thunderstorms are also expected to sweep across the Bay State on Tuesday. Isolated afternoon storms remain possible today, but they will be hot or miss just like yesterday. A spotty thunderstorm can't be ruled out later in the day or evening, especially in northern and western areas, but most areas will be dry for picnics and fireworks. Temperatures will soar into the 90s in the Northeast. The minimum index for a heat advisory is 100.

Cooling centers and pools have opened throughout the city as the heat sets in for an extended sweltering stay through the Fourth of July holiday. While the high pressure will make it hard for any t-storms to fire, a weak cold front will try to approach from our northwest Tuesday bringing a slight chance for an isolated PM t-storm, mainly north and west of the Lehigh Valley. "Also, auto interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes".

Extremely hot and humid with hazy sunshine.

Friday's overall forecast is similar - except that drier air will be moving in during the day which decreases the overall chance of showers and thunderstorms to 30 percent.

High temperatures on Monday should peak in the upper 90s across the region and when you add in the humidity it will be feeling as hot as 105°+ in places. "Temperatures are forecast in the mid to upper 90s through Wednesday, with heat index values in the mid to upper 90s". The Excessive Heat Warning will continue for Chicago itself, where the cumulative-effects of the oppressive heat will last longer and be greater. Highs will run 81-85 Saturday & 83-88 Sunday with sunshine & a few clouds.
