Liverpool seal deal for Alisson in world-record goalkeeper transfer

Alisson's agent will meet with Roma chiefs discussing a potential move to Liverpool or Chelsea

Now, former Liverpool midfielder and manager Graeme Souness has told Sky Sports that he thinks Klopp is making the right decision by replacing Karius, as he simply can't be trusted anymore after a series of mistakes, backing the move for Alisson as a "top goalkeeper".

Roma and Liverpool are "at a very advanced stage" in finalizing the transfer of Brazil worldwide goalkeeper Alisson for a reported $87 million world record fee for a goalkeeper, according to the Italian club's sporting director Monchi.

The club are not prepared to say anything publicly until the deal is completed and as yet no medical has been arranged, with the possibility remaining that another club could match Liverpool's offer.

Liverpool is pushing hard to build on the momentum off its runner-up finish in the UEFA Champions League (which it incidentally advanced to after a 7-6 aggregate win over Roma, Becker's team), but the reported fee is wild.

Alisson is Liverpool's fourth summer signing after the arrivals of Naby Keita from RB Leipzig (£52.8mn), Fabinho from Monaco (£40mn) and Xherdan Shaqiri from Stoke City (£13.5mn).

The Blues are set to lose Thibaut Courtois, who is set to join Real Madrid this summer.

The Premier League star has been exceptional during Russian Federation 2018 for his nation and it looks like he may finally get his move to the La Liga. We are really happy to have him here now.

"In terms of my life and my career, it's a huge step for me being part of this club and this family", said Allison.

Liverpool are in the market for a new goalkeeper after Loris Karius' two errors cost them in the Champions League final last season.

"At one point in the last few weeks it came up, the opportunity to sign (one) of the world's best goalkeepers", said Klopp.

Alisson's signing will have severe consequences for German stopper Loris Karius who will nearly certainly lose his place in the starting XI.
