Light, a startup known for its 16-lens camera, is bringing its futuristic technology to a new smartphone. A relatively new company founded in 2013 by Rajiv Laroia and Dave Grannan, Light recently produced its first product in 2015 - the Light L16 Camera.
So far, we have only see Huawei introduce a triple camera system on its P20 Pro smartphone.
Light has already shown prototype devices, with both five and nine-lenses, that are capable of shooting pictures up to 64-megapixels. Dropping the lens count to something like nine might help reduce costs, but not by much. Well, you're about to get a case of phone-camera-envy anyway.
The L16 finally has some specs now - the 16 cameras include five 28mm f/2 wide-angle lenses, five 70mm f/2 midrange lenses, and six 150mm f/2.4 telephoto lenses. "It's truly pocketable. Yet in the end, consumers want the convenience of a phone with the power of a dedicated camera", TechCrunch reported. Then, that information is stitched together by an algorithm to create a high-resolution image that could theoretically rival a photo captured on a DSLR camera. Light is now developing the phone and it has also created a prototype with 5 to 9 lens with incredible zoom capabilities. This phone has seven fewer lenses, but also requires a processor, screen, and other phone-specific features. Light is reportedly claiming that the massive sensor line-up will offer 64MP photos, great depth effects and improved low light performance.
That's what's coming from camera-maker Light later this year, according to The Washington Post. This pocketable camera comes with quite a hefty price.
