Lakers rise on National Basketball Association championship odds, Raptors remain steady

LeBron James Steph Curry

While at a Big Baller Brand pop-up shop in Atlanta, Lonzo Ball's dad laid out how many National Basketball Association championships he sees the King bringing home and what it would take to get that done. I can't imagine that Durant's reply was anything other than. He gets the chance to work with Magic Johnson and chase titles playing for one of the most storied National Basketball Association franchises of all time. That appears unlikely though. Now, TMZ has caught up with LaVar to pick his brain about the Lakers' big signing, and old flames seem to have once again reignited.

James signed a four-year, $153 million deal with the Lakers on Sunday night, leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Eastern Conference behind. Talking with the Spurs about a Kawhi Leonard trade will be Johnson's biggest and most hard task, but if he can get a deal done, LeBron will have his needed sidekick. In Cleveland, he signed a series of short deals with player options in order to keep the pressure on the front-office to field a title-contending team.

Marks also reported the Lakers are likely to sit tight when it comes to trading for Kawhi Leonard.

According to ESPN.com's Brian Windhorst and Ramona Shelburne, team president Magic Johnson and general manager Rob Pelinka consulted James on their ensuing agreements with Lance Stephenson, JaVale McGee and Rajon Rondo.

"The Warriors can sign Boogie, Prince, Michael Jordan, anybody they want", he said.

The most interesting storyline for the Lakers may be how die-hard fans of James co-exist with die-hard Lakers fans. Kemba Walker and Jimmy Butler hit the free agent market in 2019, too, as does Klay Thompson - his dad, Mychal, who played for the Lakers, is on the team's broadcast crew - and that's where it gets interesting.

Winners of 65 games in 2017-2018, the Lakers' and Warriors' personnel moves are bad news for the Rockets, who have dipped to +800 after opening the summer sitting second to Golden State with +525 odds.

"The NBA does better when the Lakers are at their highest potential", Bryant, who retired in 2016, told Fox Sports Radio on Monday. But with the Los Angeles Lakers, he is apparently hoping he can significantly change his style of play.
