Matt Hancock MP has been promoted to one of the most senior and sought-after positions in government, the Secretay of State for Health and Social care, he will replace long-standing Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt.

While his predecessor Mr Hancock, who has become the new Health Secretary, has his own Instagram.

Boris Johnson resigned from the United Kingdom government, tipping Prime Minister Theresa May deeper into crisis and increasing the chances she'll face a leadership challenge over her Brexit policy.

"It is as though we are sending our vanguard into battle with the white flags fluttering above them", Johnson wrote in a letter that underscored his credentials as a champion of full-speed Brexit.

First Davis and then Johnson appear to have done so, and their resignations have come at a critical and highly sensitive time for May.

Both Mr Johnson and Mr Davis had signed up on Friday to Mrs May's blueprint for Brexit at an all-day summit at Chequers on Friday. Hunt, who backed the "remain" side in Britain's 2016 European Union membership referendum, favors keeping close economic ties to the bloc after the United Kingdom leaves next year.

Writing on Twitter, he added: "Huge honour to be appointed Foreign Secretary at this critical moment in our country's history".

High-profile resignations can unleash leadership challenges in the United Kingdom, and Davis's prompted pro-Brexit lawmakers to demand May rip up her proposals - though they didn't call for her to go.

Theresa May's government is in crisis. "We do not agree about the best way of delivering our shared commitment to honoring the result of the referendum".

He said: "My principal job is to stand four square behind the Prime Minister so that we can get through an agreement with the European Union based on what was agreed by the Cabinet last week at Chequers". His departure followed the resignation late Sunday night of the minister in charge of Brexit negotiations, David Davis.

Johnson's resignation was more perilous for May given his seniority in government.

If she refuses to change course, she could face a leadership challenge.
