According to Variety, Netflix favorites like The Crown and Stranger Things are to thank for its success with this year's nominations.
"Game of Thrones" was out of the running in 2017 because the show aired later than usual.
"Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert" was also showered with praise, as was "The Handmaid's Tale's" supporting cast, coming off a just-concluded second season that gave them an opportunity to shine.
Still HBO has much to feel good about - "Game of Thrones", returning after a year off, led all shows with 22 nominations, followed by "Westworld" and "Saturday Night Live", each with 21.
