Defending Wimbledon champ Federer coasts into 2nd round

Wimbledon draw Federer Murray Nadal and Djokovic learn their fate

Japanese 24th seed Kei Nishikori also got off to a flyer, dispatching Christian Harrison 6-2 4-6 7-6 (7/3) 6-2.

Federer was pushed to a tie-break in the opening set when he met the same player in the second round past year - but he needed just 20 minutes to hit the front this time around.

The champion tennis star is playing his straight 20th Wimbledon this year and it looks like the champion is on his way to yet another dominating tournament.

Gael Monfils is through to the second round of Wimbledon after defeating fellow Frenchman Richard Gasquet 7-6 (6), 7-5, 6-4.

The 38-year-old American, the oldest woman in the draw, reached the 2017 final where she was beaten by Garbine Muguruza.

French Open finalist Stephens dropped the first set 6/1, unable to find her footing on the slippery turf.

The second seeded Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark defeated America's Varvara Lepchenko 6/0, 6/3 to advance to the second round.

Wozniacki took 59 minutes to complete the victory on Centre Court, finishing it off with a service victor.

Williams has a 14-match winning streak at the All England Club, with her sixth and seventh titles in 2015 and 2016, and a 10-match winning streak in Grand Slam action.

Federer sauntered on to court to a huge ovation and treated his army of fans to a masterclass in a first set that lasted a mere 20 minutes.

The girl had held up a sign saying, "Can I have your headband pleeease!"

And he's apparently ready to oblige.

"So the "RF" logo is with Nike at the moment, but it will come to me at some point", Federer said.

"They know I play a lot of tennis, but they won't know what my ranking would be", Federer told a news conference. 'It will be a good chance to see how my game is on grass.

The only things unfamiliar about Federer were his clothes.

The top seed, however, was wearing Nike footwear as Uniqlo does not manufacture shoes.

"The most important thing is to stay healthy and to be able to compete against these monsters, because for me I played in the past against monsters", he explained.

Vekic, who sealed the upset on her fourth match point, faces Slovakia's Viktoria Kuzmova or Sweden's Rebecca Peterson in the second round.
